Thallus: continuous, smooth, immersed in the substrate, whitish photobiont: absent Perithecia: hemispherical, black, immersed in groups of 1-5 below clypeus, c. 0.1-0.2 mm diam. ascomatal wall: black, absent below the hamathecium hamathecium: composed of branched pseudoparaphyses, not anastomosing, filaments c. 2 µm wide, not inspersed with oil droplets asci: pyriform, c. 50-70 x 15-20 µm, with 8, irregularly arranged ascospores ascospores: hyaline, clavate, 3-septate (starting with a constricted, submedian euseptum), 15-17 x 3-4.5 µm; walls: not ornamented, without a gelatinous sheath Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV negative Secondary metabolites: none detected. Substrate and ecology: on bark of Platanus World distribution: very rare, apparently endemic in North America (California, Louisiana and Massachusetts) Sonoran distribution: only collected once in southern California.
