Perithecia: immersed, the infection often producing a swelling of the host areoles, subglobose, 200-250 µm tall and 150-200 µm wide wall: brown throughout centrum: I- hamathecium: interascal filaments abundant, distinctly branched and anastomosing, c. 2 µm thick asci: ±clavate, 55-80 x 17-20 µm, with distichously arranged ascospores, 4-8-spored ascospores: brown, 1-septate, lower cell narrower than the upper one, constricted at the septum, verruculose, gelatinous sheath absent or poorly developed, 16-27 x 6-12 µm. Hosts: thallus of Sporostatia species World distribution: Europe, Asia, and North America Sonoran distribution: Arizona.
