Description. Lichenized fungus.
Thallus crustose, areolate, brownish red to reddish. Photobiont trebouxioid alga. Ascomata lecideine apothecia 0.2–0.5 mm in diam., sessile; disk flat, white pruinose. Excipulum 35–45 μm wide, brown; epihymenium pale brown, dissolving in K; hymenium clear, 45–55 μm high, pale yellowish. Asci 8-spored; ascospores 10–15 x 4.5–5 μm, 1-septate, thin septum.
Substrate and Habitat. Corticolous in humid forests.
Distribution. Scattered pantropical (Brazil, Hawaii, India), north into southeastern North America; in North Carolina found in the Coastal Plan ecoregion.
