Vainio, EA and Lynge, B. 1934. Lichenographia Fennica IV: Lecideales II. Acta Societatis Pro Fauna et Flora Fennica 57, No. 2
Thallus thin, from uniform verrucules or areoles, dispersed, 0.1-0.3 (rarely 0.5) mm wide, commonly depressed-convex, white or whitish, KOH- and I-, soredia absent or evanescent, hypothallus indistinct. Apothecia moderately pressed together, sometimes some crowded, small, 0.3-0.5 mm wide, adnate, base not or eventually slightly constricted, black, well shiny, naked, disc initially plane, eventually often convex, margin thin or very thin, initially often elevated, eventually excluded. Hypothecium dark brown/grayish-brown-sooty, in KOH becoming somewhat violet-black, irregularly woven together. Perithecium green/greenish-blue-black. Epithecium green/greenish-blue-sooty, otherwise hymenium completely green/greenish-blue. Paraphyses tightly coherent, gelatinous. Spores ellipsoid or oblong, and also part subglobose, 0.006-0.011 mm long, 0.0045-0.005 mm thick.
Distr. LIn.: Attached to granulate rock in subalpine region of mountains Hammastunturi near fl. Iivalojoki (Vain. l.c.).
On plant apparently belonging to L. erratica, I perceive apothecia small and shiny. Apothecia sometimes irregular or flexuous or lobate, margin otherwise entire. Hypothecium hyphae in KOH not turgid, subhymenial part green/greenish-blue and hyphae erect. Perithecium hyphae radiate, moderately pachydermatous, cavities narrow. Hymenium c. 0.050-0.060 mm thick, I persistently becoming blue. Paraphyses simple, apices not thick, tubules 0.001-0.0005 mm wide. Asci clavate, in apices membrane moderately thick. Spores 8, distichous, hyaline, simple.
Obs. In Adj. Lich. Lapp. Vainio had placed this species in the section Lecidea panaeola.
