cushion-forming, dark brown and shiny terete to narrowly-flattened erect elongate lobules, pale gray inside, main lobes erect and elongate with tufts of tomentum underneath, wrinkly, apothecia scattered, epihymenium red-brown, hymenium ~200um, exciple red-brown filled with small globose cells transitioning halfway down side of margin into normal cortex, cortices both the same of square to elongate isoiametric cells 8-15x8-10um colored brown in outer half or not at all, medulla loose interwoven fine hyphae, algae chains of Nostoc, spores 8 per ascus submuriform to muriform 30-35x18-20um
