thallus gray areolate; apothecia innate to broadly adnate, thalline margin well-developed and persistent; medulla POL+ weak buy K- C- KC- UV- KUV- P- I-; epihymenium brown, clear; hypothecium hyaline to faintly brownish (K+ orangish); spores 8 per ascus, irregular, type-A to type-B, vaguely physcia-type at some point but gaining rounded lumina which finally fill spores and appear thin-walled like buellia-type, ~12-17x7-8um
