thallus areolate to verrucose-areolate, very pale gray to slightly brownish in places, rusty in places; areoles irregularly polygonal, separated by relatively conspicuous cracks, convex to strongly convex, slightly shiny, P+o weak; apothecia 1 to several per areole, angular, ~small, black, ~epruinose, margins concolorous, not or slightly raised and larger than sterile areoles; epihymenium olive-green to olive-brown; hymenium ~100um, I- only very briefly bluish before turning golden; exciple I-; paraphyses submoniliform; spores 8 per ascus, ~15-20x10-13um; conidia ~12-20um but mostly around 15um; TLC stictic + minor connorstictic + trace hyposalazinic + constictic (JPH plate 24.26 on 20171025)
