Notes: areoles scattered, small, strongly verrucose, pale gray, K+y; rims strongly verrucose-beaded; disk epruinose, red-brown to black-brown; cortex very thin, brown-granular, POL+ clearing in K; epihymenium red-brown to black-brown, coarsely POL+ but obscured in heavily-pigmented ones, clearing or turning pale greenish in K; hymenium ~80um, clear; medulla strongly POL+ with abundant huge blocky crystals, not clearing in K at all; spores ~11-15x6.5-7.5um
