The thallus is uniform, entire, thin to really thin, warty and uneven or smooth, with whitish crusts. The hypothallus is barely noticeable.
The apothecia are 0.4–0.8 mm in diameter, clustered, and non sessile at the base. The disk of the apothecium is black, naked, convex, and not pronounced at the edge. The epithecium is dimly green (color of copper oxide) to sooty. The hymenium is dark brown, blackish–brown. The paraphyses are closely clasped, not united, thin, composed of elongated cells, on the top clavate. The asci are clavate, with 8 spores, aligned in 1 or 2 rows. The spores are 2-celled, ellipsoidal, brown, with a slight constriction near the septum, 11-14 X 6–9 μm.
The pycnidia are brownish red–sooty to greenish–sooty, it changes to a violet color from N.
The thallus turns yellow from K, and does not change in coloration from C or I. The epithecium does not change in coloration from K, and turns violet from N. he hymenium does not change in coloration from K.
