Perithecia: black, initially immersed in the host thallus, later slightly erumpent, dispersed, spherical to broadly ellipsoid, 170-300 µm in diam. exciple: dark brown, K-, 15-25 µm thick but enlarged and up to 65 µm thick near the ostiole hymenium: hyaline, 140-160 µm tall; subhymenium: hyaline, 8-10 µm thick paraphyses: simple, filiform, 1.5-2 µm thick, apically not enlarged periphyses: simple, 12-36 µm long asci: clavate to cylindrical, 90-110 x 1522 µm ascospores: hyaline, 3-septate, filiform, straight or sometimes slightly curved, smooth, 40-86 x 2-4 µm Pycnidia: frequent, black, almost completely immersed in the host thallus, 20-50 µm in diam. wall: hyaline but dark brown around the ostiole, K- conidia: hyaline, simple, bacilliform, 3.5-4.5 x 1-1.5 µm. Hosts: on thalli of Peltigera species (mainly P. didactyla) occurring on soil, in rather xeric habitats; in Arizona, on an unidentified Peltigera World distribution: Europe, Asia and North America; also reported from Papua New Guinea on Polychidium, but this probably refers to a distinct, undescribed species (Diederich, pers. comm.) Sonoran distribution: southern Arizona.
