This species is known only from the original collections in Greenland on Beiula. The packet of the type specimen collected by Vahl at Tunnudliorfik in Greenland was empty in 1961 when examined. Another packct also citcd on Beiula, from Igaliko, collected by K. Roscnvingc in 1888 and labeled by Branth in his handwriting is here designated as a ncotypc (Article 7.8). This specimen has no algae associated with the fruits, so that this species is a nonlichcnizcd fungus rather than a lichen. Although not yet collected from the American Arctic, it may be sought there.
