Growing on south facing rock. Growing among moss; Nw facing granite cliff, upper subalpine habitat. Dwarfed Tsuga mertensiana, Vaccinium, Cassiope mertensiana, C. stellaris, Leutkea pectinata, Phyllodoce glanduliflora, Fauria crista-gallia. S face of mountain is subalpine, N face is alpine. Lichen and bryophyte veg differ greatly on N and NE facing rock surfaces from those facing S and W.
