United States, Colorado, Garfield, White River National Forest: Flat Tops Wilderness Area, vicinity of Wall Lake along Wall Lake Trail (USFS trail 1818), site delimited by wilderness boundary on north end and the junction of USFS Trails No. 1818 and 1815, and located 1 mile south of Wilderness boundary, at west Hale Site No. 3 (mostly burned). Note: This site was almost completely burned. An open meadow near the outlet of a small pond at the southern end of Hale Site No. 3 was the only place with intact lichen communities. Other than Xanthoparmelia sp., material for elemental analysis, Usnea sp., was collected just beyond Hale designated Site No. 3 at both the north and south ends. Hale 1982 Site No. 3.
