Thallus white ashy gray or slightly ashy gray-green, thin, membraneous, slightly developed; apothecia dark brown/grayish-brown copular-concave (2-3 millim. broad), receptacle exterior pale; thecia single-spored, spores slightly amber-red, oblong, 2-3 septate, 0.085-0.120 millim. long, very often 2-septate (middle cell broad), paraphyses moderately sized, gelatinous, conglutinate, epithecium orange-yellow/clay-red. Iodine thecia blue.
Above earth inspersed with lime. Frustule somewhat visible. Cupulae immersed in earth.
Thallus gonidia protected.Apothecia coming away from urceolate border.Spores very extraordinary.General appearance resembling S. spongiosam (8m.). Cephalodia not seen.
