Thallus yellow-green, thin, granular-areolate, granules (broadly c. 0.2 millim.), often dispersed, slightly convex, hypothallus very thin, blackish; apothecia black, plane, margin (broad, 0.3-0.5 millim.), concolourous within; spores 8, hyaline, ellipsoid, 1-septate, 0.008-10 millim. long, 0.004-5 millim thick, paraphyses not separate, epithecium and hypothecium dark brown/greyish-brown, thalamium dark brown/greyish-brown-coloured. Iodine hymenial gelatin blue, then dark.
Over gneiss rock.
Species out of root of Lecidea atroalbicans, if instead distributed near Lecidea alpicola, granted that spores are slightly hyaline. Thallus reaction none. Variegated pale, less yellow.
