Description.Life form: Lichenized fungus.
Thallus crustose, endophloedal, indistinct as a brownish or yellowish stain; prothallus indistinct or absent. Photobiont Trentepohlia alga. Ascomata perithecoid, dispersed, immersed, reddish-brown, 0.2-0.4 mm diam. Periphyses up to 40 μm long by 1.5 μm thick; paraphyses ~350 μm long by 2 μm thick, clearly septate. Asci 200-250 x 12-15 μm, 40-80-spored; ascospores hyaline, ellipsoid to broadly ovate, submuriform, 9-14 x 5-7 μm
Substrate and Habitat. Corticolous on trees in shaded forests.
Distribution. Southeastern North America, South America (Brazil, Guyana), Azores, India; in North Carolina found in the Piedmont and Coastal Plain ecoregios.
